Seven decades in the making, SEVIIN Reels unveiled its 2024 lineup last week, with availability to anglers beginning in September!

After spending the last seven decades building the Best Rods on Earth, St. Croix Rod has learned a thing or two about crafting world-class fishing equipment that gives anglers the upper hand. Last week at the world’s largest fishing tackle trade show – ICAST 2023 – we put the latest results of our Midwest work ethic and angler-driven mission on display in the next exciting chapter of our story – one that’s laser-focused on reels and reels alone. 

Backed by 75 years of design and manufacturing expertise, industry-leading customer service, and 46 years of ownership by the Schluter family dating back to 1977. SEVIIN reels are meticulously engineered and purpose-built to help anglers conquer every species on every piece of water on the planet. The SEVIIN Team 

SEVIIN shares St. Croix DNA and was born from the same. SEVIIN is a St. Croix brand, established and completely backed by the full resources of St. Croix Rod. That said, SEVIIN reels are designed to improve the angling experience, regardless of the specific rods anglers choose. 

While both St. Croix and SEVIIN share the same mission of elevating the angling experience, each brand will remain distinct and be supported by dedicated resources. The SEVIIN Team is comprised of reel experts focused solely on reels.

Forristall reiterates that every decision the SEVIIN Reels Team makes will be guided by anglers’ needs. “We will be relentless in our pursuit of perfection, and we will innovate,” he says, “but our innovation will be honest. That means if a design, feature, or technology doesn’t help make an angler better on the water or enhance their experience, it won’t go on our reels.”

What and When? 

SEVIIN Reels announced and revealed its initial product launch at ICAST 2023. This consists of one series of baitcasting reels (GF Series), two series of spinning reels (GS and GX Series), and one series of saltwater-specific spinning reels (GSW Series).

SEVIIN GF Series Baitcasting Reels

SEVIIN’s new GF Series consists of six low-profile baitcasting models in three available gear ratios with right-hand or left-hand-retrieve configurations. Featuring a 4+1 stainless-steel bearing system (the two bearings on the spool shaft being Japanese stainless steel), carbon and stainless-steel drag componentry, and hardened brass pinion and drive gears, GF Series reels combine noticeably smooth casting, retrieve, and drag operation with great gear feel and excellent durability. Light, comfortable, and solid in the hand, GF reels feature ported aluminum spools and carbon fiber handles to minimize weight, while a strong, one-piece graphite frame and side plates yield excellent rigidity, further enhancing the satisfying way GF reels feel and perform. Anglers will also appreciate GF’s micro-adjustable magnetic cast control that makes it easy to dial-in maximum casting performance depending on the specific line and lure they’re using. Retail price is $120 with a one-year warranty. Available in September, 2023. 

SEVIIN GS Series Spinning Reels

Engineered from a blank slate to deliver a valuable combination of smooth operation and long-lasting durability, SEVIIN’s new GS Series consists of five versatile spinning models including 750, 1000, 2000, 2500, and 3000 sizes with lightweight and rigid carbon bodies, side plates, and rotors. Spools, handles, and key accent components are crafted from lightweight aluminum. GS’s rotating mechanicals are supported by a silky 6 + 1 stainless-steel bearing system, while a precision-hobbed hard brass pinion and die-cast helical gear drive the reels with smooth power and great feel. A micro-adjustable stacked carbon and stainless-steel drag extends GS’s smooth performance once powerful, hard-charging fish are hooked. GS Series spinning reels also feature rock-solid instant anti-reverse and S-Curve super-slow oscillation that ensures line is stacked evenly on the spool, resulting in longer casts and fewer line management issues, even when using lighter, finesse-size lines. Retail price is $140 with a one-year warranty. Available in January, 2024.

SEVIIN GX Series Spinning Reels

SEVIIN’s pinnacle offering in the multi-species spinning-reel category, the GX Series was designed and engineered over the past two years with the goal of producing an ultra-dependable family of lightweight, smooth, and powerful spinning reels offering premium, elite-level performance. Available in 750, 1000, 2000, 2500, and 3000 sizes, GX Series spinning reels start with carbon bodies, side plates, and rotors to minimize weight while maximizing rigidity and durability. Precision-engineered aluminum handles and spools further enhance strength and durability with lightweight skeletonized designs. A one-piece titanium bail delivers supreme balance and feel, failsafe operation, and additional weight savings. External components are rounded out with premium, machined-aluminum accent pieces. Inside, GX is powered by a precision-hobbed hard brass pinion and diecast helical drive gear for an optimal combination of feel and longevity. Ultra-smooth operation comes courtesy of a 10+1 bearing system and a carbon and stainless-steel stacked drag system delivering nine to 22 pounds of maximum drag force, depending on the model. A unique, micro-adjustable drag-knob design makes it easy for anglers to make fast and accurate drag adjustments. GX Series spinning reels also feature S-Curve super-slow oscillation for even line stacking, longer casts, and improved overall line management. An internal support guide ensures up-and-down spool oscillation remains consistent, even under the heaviest of drag loads. Retail price is $190 with a one-year warranty. Available in January, 2024.

SEVIIN GSW Series Saltwater Spinning Reels

The all-new SEVIIN GSW Series encompasses four exceptionally smooth, powerful, and versatile saltwater spinning reels (3000, 4000, 6000 & 8000 sizes), precisely designed and crafted to elevate the saltwater fishing experience with uncompromising performance and reliability. Features include lightweight, strong, and durable aluminum construction, 6+1 shielded stainless-steel bearing system, multi-stack carbon and stainless-steel drag, S-curve slow oscillation, and premium, machined accents. Retail price is $160-$200 with a one-year warranty. Available in February, 2024.
